For those parents who still aren’t sure what the trend is all about, the “6-7 trend” is a viral internet craze, where people react enthusiastically to the numbers 6 and 7 being called out, often in contexts like food orders or reading pages.

Even the prime minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, got involved with it on a visit to a primary school. The teachers were not amused!

I have some inspiration for what to do if you want to incorporate this funny trend into your Elf ideas.

Elf on the Shelf “6 7 trend” ideas

1. Elf the Math Teacher

Set up the elf with a tiny whiteboard with the following calculations:

15-8 = ?

3+3 = ?

Your kids will pause at first, and then roar with laughter.

2. UNO Chaos

Place UNO cards everywhere.

Elf is holding a 6 and a 7 like trophies.

Add a note saying: “Don’t tell your teacher!”

4. Lego 6-7

Elf has used Lego on a board to spell out the numbers 6 and 7.

5. Storybook Page Flip

Elf is sitting inside a book opened to page 67 or at pages 6 and 7.

Add a note reading: “Look what page I got to!”

6. Dice Roll Magic

Elf rolls dice but has arranged them to show 6 + 7.

Add a note reading: “THE LUCKIEST NUMBERS.”

6. 6 7 overload

Grab some Post-It notes (lots of them) and write the numbers 6 and 7 on them. Post all over the kitchen, or in a particular corner of the house.

Add one to the Elf’s face too and pop the pen in his arms to show he’s responsible.

They will love it!

7. Balloons

Plan ahead and get some number balloons shaped in a 6 and 7, get them blown up and then attach the Elf to the strings of the balloons.

8. Toys spell it out

The Elf has used toy cars or other beloved toys to spell out the numbers 6 and 7 on the floor.
