Genius last-minute tooth fairy excuses

With all the pressures of being a parent it’s no wonder that occasionally we might slip up and forget to switch a lost tooth for money.

Losing a tooth is an exciting moment for kids. My eldest daughter has lost seven teeth since she turned four and every time she was so excited to wake up the next day and see the coin the tooth fairy had left for her.

Luckily I haven’t forgotten to leave out the money just yet, but is it any wonder when we are busy parents that sometimes we slip up and forget? Or that we don’t actually have change on us to switch for the tooth?

So if you have forgotten to do the tooth fairy’s job of switching your kid’s lost tooth for money, or you don’t have change to do the tooth fairy, these awesome tooth fairy excuses will help!

What I love about these excuses for forgetting the tooth fairy is they involve playing into the myth of the tooth fairy. Telling your kid a story about how the tooth fairy got stuck or lost will probably entertain them, so remember to tell it with conviction!

To help with inspiration for your tooth fairy excuse I’ve got a list of awesome excuses for when the fairy forgets to visit!

Last-minute tooth fairy ideas

If you have placed the tooth underneath your child’s pillow, they’ve fallen asleep and then you’ve realised you don’t have any change to swap it for, do not panic!

Instead of leaving out cash swap the tooth for a note. Use some paper from your child’s desk and one of their pens or pencils and write a IOU note from the fairy saying:

“Hi (child’s name), I’m so sorry I ran out of money. My fairy friends in the tooth fairy money department forgot to give me enough coins tonight. I will be back again tomorrow night, so remember to check under your pillow!

Love Ms Tooth Fairy

x”

Or you could keep it simple and write:

“Hey (child’s name), IOU one coin for your tooth. Be back tomorrow night!

Love Ms Tooth Fairy

x”

If you feel like making it even more elaborate you could sprinkle some glitter on your child’s desk to show where the fairy was when she wrote the IOU note.

This family had a genius idea of writing a letter from the Chief Tooth Fairy. I love the letter they wrote from the fairy to their kid!
