It’s also a great meal to offer your baby if you are baby-led weaning, as the texture is soft and easy to chew and you can cut them into easy-to-hold strips.

This baby blueberry pancakes recipe involves just five key ingredients – and all you need to do is whisk them together and then cook your pancakes in a pan. Easy.
Blueberry pancakes have been a firm favourite with my kids since they were babies.
And I’m more than happy to cook them, because I know they’re getting one of their five a day with the blueberries and it’s a super convenient meal to make!
This easy blueberry pancakes recipe for babies involves making fluffy American style pancakes for kids and dropping blueberries into the mixture.
This is a go-to recipe for me and it’s one I often make when I have nothing else in the cupboards.

Cooking baby-led weaning blueberry pancakes
I absolutely love this recipe because it’s just so straightforward. It’s one you can add to your family recipe book, as your kids will still love it when they are toddlers.

All you need to do is put all of the batter ingredients – egg, milk, flour, baking powder and blueberries – into a mixing bowl and give them a really good stir to combine into a batter.
Your batter will be a reasonably thick consistency – this helps it stay thick in the pan rather than becoming like a crepe-style pancake.

It’s easiest if you hold off dropping the blueberries in until after you’ve combined the other items. Then stir to mix them in.
I usually chop the blueberries in half or squash them down, just so that they don’t go into the batter whole and I know they will be mushy and easy for baby to eat and swallow.
You can use butter or vegetable oil for frying, but butter often causes the pancakes to burn.
If you find your pancakes burn – which has happened to me before – then consider switching butter for oil for the cooking and make sure your pan is not too hot.
How to know when to flip your pancakes
If you’ve never cooked pancakes before then one of the trickiest stages is knowing when to flip it over to cook the other side.
You’re looking for bubbles on the surface of the pancake as your sign it’s time to flip. This means the batter has started to cook through from the surface that’s in contact with the pan.
It usually takes around one to two minutes for this to happen, depending on the heat of your pan.
At what age can your baby have pancakes
You baby can start to eat pancakes at six months old.
At this stage your baby should be able to sit up, hold their head steady and swallow food rather than spit it back up, according to the NHS.
One of the easiest ways to get your baby trying solid foods is to eat the food yourself, so try making a batch of blueberry pancakes you can enjoy too and eat with your baby.
When they watch you eating, they’ll want to copy!

Dairy-free blueberry pancakes
You can swap out the dairy ingredients in this recipe for easy alternatives.
Instead of cow’s milk you can use soya, oat or almond milk.
In terms of cooking use oil instead of butter for frying.
Can you freeze pancakes
This recipe is totally suitable for home freezing! So if your baby doesn’t eat a whole batch, then just save the leftovers.
To freeze the pancakes simply:
- Cook following the recipe in this article.
- Allow pancakes to cool completely and place on a baking sheet that is lined with baking paper.
- Place the tray in the freezer for one hour and then transfer the frozen pancakes into a sealable freezer bag.
- Make sure you use within six months!

Ingredients
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 150ml milk
- 110g plain flour
- 1tsp baking powder
- 10g unsalted butter (melted)
- Handful of blueberries
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Put all of the ingredients - eggs, flour, baking powder, milk and melted butter - into a bowl (or a jug) and either blend with a hand blender or whisk together until combined. I suggest using a jug to pour the mixture into the pan as it just works much better that way.
- Add blueberries to the batter and stir.
- Get your frying pan on a medium to high heat. If the pan is too hot, the pancakes will burn quite easily.
- Put a small amount of oil in the pan and allow to coat the pan. Next pour in a small amount of the mixture.
- Once the surface of the pancake is bubbling, it’s time to flip it over. It will take around two minutes to cook on each side.
- Repeat until you’ve used all of the mixture. If you find the pancakes are browning too much at the edges, your pan is too hot so turn it right down.
