Of course it’s great fun and a really special time, but with so many names out there it can be a little overwhelming.

While some parents may find making the choice super easy because they are taking inspiration from a loved one’s name, or a particular place or theme, for others it can be tricky.

When we came to choose our babies’ names we had no particular ideas in mind, we just knew we wanted to use quite modern baby names

We drew most of our inspiration for our daughters’ names from the top 100 baby names list.

Although if I were to do it all again I think I would spend some time looking beyond this – as there are so many special, but not totally wacky, baby girl names that are uncommonly used.

I’m still super happy with our final choices though, and this list of cute baby girl first and middle name combinations that work is going to help you make a decision.

Whether you love popular names or more unusual, rare girl names, you’ll find inspiration in this list!

Tips for finding baby girl name combinations

Still struggling to decide on a name? Try these tips for making that crucial decision – remember you don’t have to rush and can decide after baby is born!

List your top choices

Always make a note of your favourite names and take a look at the potential options written in full.

Sounding them our and writing them down can help you to decide if you really love how the names combine together.

Take a time out

If you are at an impasse with your partner when it comes to deciding on a name then take some time to think about it, rather than talking in circles.

After a couple of weeks you may have both changed your minds about your favourite name.

Consider the initials and nicknames

Your baby’s initials and nicknames could be a dealbreaker for you, so consider what the initials spell our and if any nicknames could develop that you hate.

Try alliteration

Alliteration, where you have two words that begin with the same letter, can be a really great inspiration for a name combination.

Some examples include Alice Allegra, Dixie Devon, Freya Faith and Lara Love.

Watch out for names that end on a similar sound

Names that both end on a similar sound can sometimes clash.

So for example names that both end in “ia”, such as Amelia Mia, can be a little too repetitive. It’s a similar story with two names that end in “y” or “ie”.

That’s not to say that type of name combination never works, but it’s just something to be aware of when sounding out the names together.

Final thoughts

I hope you found your baby’s name in this list of ideas! And if not I hope it gave you some inspiration and it made getting ready for your baby’s arrival a little easier.
