Easy Sheet Pan Pizza Recipe

This simple sheet pan pizza recipe is perfect for a quick and easy family meal.

It takes just a bit of prep, and you can always make your dough in advance. Once the dough is ready, it’s really just a case of assembling everything and cooking in the oven.

The sheet pan pizza is made by placing your dough into an oven roasting tray – I use one with a decent depth and 20x30cm in dimensions.

I personally find it so much easier than cooking regular pizza, where you have to stretch the dough into a round shape. This dough and method just involves stretching the dough to fit inside the sheet pan.

I usually go with simple toppings for this recipe, but you can add whatever you want including:

  • Fresh peppers
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Olives
  • Slices of sausage
  • Meatballs (cooked)

How to make sheet pan pizza

All you need to do to put together this recipe is make a simple dough using flour, yeast and salt.

That will need to be left to double in size for around two hours, which is why I make that in advance either the night before – and leave the dough in the fridge – or weeks in advance and freeze the dough (wrapped tightly in cling film).

For the pizza sauce you can buy ready made sauce, which saves time, or make your own. I usually fry onions and garlic, then add diced carrot and leaks to fry for a few minutes before topping with passata. I cook for around 10 minutes, season with salt and then blend the mixture until smooth.

This then gets spread all over the dough once it is spread across the bottom of the roasting tin. Unlike with other pizza, I do not leave a gap for a crust around the edges, I take the sauce all the way to the edge.

Finally I top everything with grated mozzarella and whatever other toppings I have that day.

My kids have different tastes, so I often will do half and half toppings to satisfy everyone’s tastes. It’s easier to do this with a rectangular pizza, in my view.

Once it’s cooked, the pizza is very easy to lift out of the roasting tin – as long as you make sure you greased the tin before cooking.

Then it’s just a case of cutting it up and serving.

This is a great recipe for a midweek family dinner or for a kids party.

Ingredients

  • 500g strong white bread flour
  • 4g yeast
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 150g pizza sauce
  • 150g mozarella
  • Parmasan for sprinkling on top once cooked
  • Handful basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre, add 300ml warm water, then use a wooden spoon to incorporate the liquid into the flour, forming a rough dough. Tip onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for 10 minutes until a rough ball is formed. You can also add the ingredients to a mixer fitted with a dough hook, then knead for 10 minutes. The dough will be quite wet. Place in a bowl, cover, then leave in a warm place until doubled in size (roughly 2 hours).
  2. Preheat the oven to its highest temperature. Lightly oil a deep 20x30cm baking tin. Put in the dough and stretch it out to the edges with your fingers. Cover and rest for 30 minutes.
  3. If the dough has shrunk, stretch it out to the edges again. Spoon the pizza sauce all over, taking it right to the edges. Dot over the mozzarella, then sprinkle with the parmesan and half of the basil leaves. Add some black pepper and any other toppings of your choice. Bake for 15 minutes until the dough is cooked and the cheese melted.
  4. Run a knife around the edges to help release the pizza, then use a spatula to lift it out. Scatter with the rest of the basil leaves. Cut into squares and serve.
