100 ways to keep mum happy

Us mums ride a rollercoaster of emotions as we try to juggle a million and one different things.

Some days are pretty close to perfection and we’re buoyed by the enormous love we have for our kids and family.

Other days we wonder if it’s possible to make time move faster simply by staring at a clock. It hasn’t worked for me so far.

Mums spend the majority of their time catering for other people’s needs. Not wanting to forget the dads here, I know that in a lot of families dad is a 50/50 partner in the house and raising of kids.

But while I’m on maternity and breastfeeding, it’s been me who’s had the lion’s share of household duties to keep everyone else happy.

This often means sacrificing my needs. I’m the last one to eat, get to sleep, pick what I want on TV and choose what I want to do with family time. On the other hand I’m always the first to wake up in the morning. Hmmmm.

So sometimes us mums need a little something to cheer us up. It doesn’t take much. A simple chore done without us asking for it to be done. A thoughtful little gift, a surprise trip.

It can make all the difference it you’re having a rough time.

These are not necessarily things a partner should do – I stress this point as I’m not husband bashing. They are also things a mum can make time to do for herself. Or things that a friend or other relative could do.

Some of them cost money, most don’t cost anything.
