Twinkle Twinkle Little Star first birthday party

There’s something so special about your baby’s first birthday party.

Of course they won’t remember it, but they will be able to look at the photographs in years to come.

Plus it’s lovely to celebrate this milestone. It’s not just about the baby, it’s about you as parents too. You made it to a year, in one piece!

For our youngest daughter’s first birthday we had a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star theme in pale pink and gold. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on decorating our house, but I did want to make the house look special.

I got loads of inspiration from Pinterest so I thought I would return the favour and let you inside our Twinkle Twinkle birthday party.

The decorations

I decided to get my toddler involved in the decorations by getting her to paint this decoupage number one from Hobbycraft.

She painted it, then I cut out cardboard stars with a hole punch and she stuck them on wherever she wanted. The number one was then placed on the table next to the cake.

Along the DIY theme I made a Twinkle Twinkle poster and had it printed at Tesco, which only cost £4.50 for poster size. I got a cheap frame from a local frame shop and then placed this on the table where the food and cake was displayed.

The paper plates, napkins, bunting and cups were ordered from Party Pieces.

I love the pink streamer backdrop, it would also be great to hang in a doorway although it is quite fragile.

The large number one balloon was from Hobbycraft, I love the gold which tied in so nicely with the pale pink and gold colour scheme. It looked really striking on the table with the buffet food.

The cake

I am incredibly lucky to have an extremely talented mum who can make amazing cakes. Check out this beautiful iced cake! I love the shades of pink and those gorgeous swirls.

She also made these chocolate and plain cupcakes which have beautiful star and one toppers on them.

The topper on the main cake was from notonthehighstreet.com.

The food

I wanted to have lots of star-shaped foods but in the end only managed to get round to making these star-shaped biscuits. My toddler iced them so this was a fun thing for her to do and feel involved with the whole process.

However in my research I found these cheesy star bites at My Fussy Eater which look super simple and delicious.

I would also have liked to make fruit kebabs with melon cut into star shapes at the top. This gives a gorgeous shooting star effect.
