Creative Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

Looking for a creative way to announce your pregnancy?

Waiting those 12 weeks to announce your pregnancy can feel like forever!

So once you finally get to the stage where you can tell the world you are pregnant, you want to do it with a bit of style and fun!

I’ve got some amazing inspiration for pregnancy announcements from fellow parents who took fabulous photos to share their happy news.

When to announce your pregnancy

Most parents-to-be wait 12 weeks before announcing their pregnancy to friends and family.

This is because most miscarriages will sadly take place in the first three months of pregnancy.

But there are no rules here. You do not have to wait until 12 weeks to tell people you are pregnant.

So the timing of the announcement is really up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

Taking great pregnancy announcement photos

Before we get to the pregnancy announcement ideas, here are a few tips for taking great pregnancy photos:

  • Get great light. Outside is normally best.
  • Take lots of pictures. Even if it’s a very similar shot over and over again, once you look at them for editing you may see that you prefer your expressions in one photo compared to another.
  • Use the best camera you have. Smartphones do have increasingly better cameras, but nothing beats a decent DSLR camera at taking quality photos.
  • Try using a letter board or other props. Adding some props into your photo can really dial up the fun element of your pregnancy announcement. A letter board can be used for a quote or just stating when you’re due.
  • Have fun. This is a special time, and you may look back on these pregnancy photos in years to come, so have fun with it!

Balloon pregnancy announcement idea for a fourth baby

Balloons are a great way to announce your pregnancy. This one has been used by Thimble and Twig to announce her fourth baby, but you could use it for a second child or even a first if you and your other half get in the photo instead of the kids.

Simple and beautiful

Simply holding up your scan picture and having your tummy in shot is a lovely, straightforward way to announce your happy news.

Scan picture flatlay

It’s become increasingly popular to use simple flatlay images with a letterboard and props such as your scan picture to tell the world you are pregnant.

You can buy digital pregnant flatlay announcement images, which you then personalise with your own words and dates.

A flatlay is a great opportunity to be creative. Add flowers and other props or stick with a pretty letter board like Caitlys.

Sibling T-shirts

A fun tee is a great way to get kids involved with your pregnancy announcement!

Using T-shirts is a great prop idea for your pregnancy announcement. There are tons of tees you can get on Etsy or Amazon to help you with this! This lovely pic is via Oreos and Gin

Chalkboard announcement

This board announcement is a pretty idea from Simplify Create Inspire.

You can do this as a sibling announcement, like this image shows. Or you can create your own flatlay using a chalkboard or letterboard and some baby items, such as booties or a sweet toy.

Get the pets involved

Get your four-legged friends involved on the action by putting them at the centre of your announcement photoshoot.

You could use a sign, or get a bandana to put around their neck that says “promoted to big brother/sister”.

Cake surprise. Bake a cake and include a baby announcement. Unveil it from a box at the last minute to surprise the person you are announcing the pregnancy to. Add “oh baby” or “coming soon…” and some pink and blue icing to make it colourful and fun.

Create a mock movie poster. Why not make your own movie poster, adding pictures of you and your partner, and add the wording “Coming Soon: Baby (your last name)”. You can do this with free sites like Canva.

Say it with a jigsaw puzzle. Get your scan image printed on a jigsaw or a worded announcement on a jigsaw and take a photo for social media.

Say it with a mug. Get a customised pregnancy announcement mug and use it in your photoshoot. I love this library card due date mug.
