We finally caved and got an air fryer – well our family pitched in to get one as a birthday gift but we had decided it was time we gave it a go.
These delicious and juicy air fryer chicken wings were one of the first things we cooked with our new Ninja and wow did it tell us we had made the right choice!
Here’s everything I did to get wings with just the right amount of crispiness on the skin, and lovely moist chicken that falls away from the bone.
Tips for making air fryer chicken wings
Follow my tips to make the perfect chicken wings in your air fryer.
- I used a mixture of BBQ spice mix, chipotle spice mix and paprika along with olive oil to coat my wings. However you can personalise it. If your kids hate spice then use mixed herbs, such as oregano and thyme, with olive oil instead. Don’t forget to add a little seasoning.
- Some recipes say cook at 180C, others say to cook at 200C. I recommend 200C, for 18 minutes. Do check the wings at this stage to make sure they are cooked through before serving.
- Once your wings are cooked you could toss them in a yummy sauce, such as a BBQ sauce or hot sauce – a Frank’s Hot Sauce is a winner for people who like spice.
What to serve with chicken wings
Here are a few ideas for what you could serve with your wings:
- Potato wedges.
- Sweet potato fries.
- Fresh garden salad.
- Air fryer slices of chorizo – simple but delicious side dish.
- Potato skins.
- Stuffed peppers.
- Deep fried veggies.
Spicy Air Fryer Chicken Wings
Delicious spicy wings with a crispy skin and moist chicken. These are hot wings, so if you want to tone down the heat levels then consider toning down the amount of chipotle.
Ingredients
- 900g (2lbs) chicken wings
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon chipotle chilli seasoning or chipotle paste
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon BBQ seasoning
Instructions
- Mix the spice rub ingredients together in a bowl and then add the chicken wings.
- Stir thoroughly to coat the wings in the spice rub.
- Cover and place in fridge to marinade for at least an hour, preferably two.
- Set air fryer to 200C (392F) and cook for 18 minutes. Check the wings halfway through and turn.
- Remove wings from air fryer. At this stage you can scatter with sliced spring onions and/or sesame seeds if you wish.
