A selection of Christmas goodies from M&S

There’s something undeniably magical about old traditions, but it’s also something very special when you create new ones as well.

We didn’t have Christmas Eve boxes (nor Elf on the Shelf) when I was little, but they have fast become part of the festive family celebrations.

The fluffy slippers are perfect for chilly winter days. The Night Before Christmas should be in all Christmas Eve boxes!

What I love most about Christmas Eve boxes is that they add to the excitement as children count down those final hours until Christmas Day.

They don’t contain any large gifts, but they have festive themed goodies to make the day before just as exciting.

But what should you put in a Christmas Eve box? In my opinion there are a few must-haves, and I was lucky enough to be sent some goodies by Marks & Spencer.

You can buy a Christmas Eve box or try to make your own

I’ve always loved the clothes and food M&S creates for Christmas. I honestly think they are Santa’s undercover elves (shh, don’t share the secret).

So with a little help from the elves at M&S, here are a few ideas for what to put in your Christmas Eve box:

Pyjamas. Absolutely essential. It doesn’t matter what they have on them, as long as it’s festive. These twinkling penguin ones from M&S are so cute.

Slippers. Also essential. The cosier and fluffier, the better. I love these fluffy pom pom ones from M&S.

Christmas movie. These days we watch pretty much everything through online streaming, so maybe a gift card is better than a DVD for modern gift boxes.

Christmas biscuits. M&S has a lovely Decorate Your Own Santa Biscuits kit. This has two biscuits, a tube of icing and some sprinkles to decorate. My two spent an hour decorating (and eating) theirs.

Popcorn. For watching the movie, of course!

Crafty fun. M&S sent us a festive door handle sign for the girls to colour in. Your kids could also draw a picture to leave out for Santa.

Christmas book. The perfect way to calm them down as you put the kids to bed on Christmas Eve! M&S sent us The Night Before Christmas, which is ideal for getting the kids to nod off so that Santa can arrive.

A soft toy. Pick out something festive like a cuddly Santa or penguin, perfect for keeping them company in bed the night before Christmas.

Pack it all away in a box, which you can either buy from places like M&S or decorate your own wooden box or hamper!
