5 amazing family-friendly UK destinations

The London Eye at Southbank

The UK has some fantastic places to visit with your family.

While our country might be small, it packs a punch when it comes to variety and excitement. Plus it doesn’t take all that long to drive from coast to coast.

So when it comes to exploring you can find something that entertains the entire family without the stress of a long haul flight. Whether you choose to drive it yourself or go for coach and minibus hire by SMC Coach, you know the journey isn’t going to be too long and arduous.

I live in the South East, so I thought I would share some of my favourite family-friendly UK destinations for day trips and staycations.

Southbank, London

There’s so much to do in this corner of London. The SEA LIFE London Aquarium is a must-see with kids. It’s something that will appeal to children of all ages and its accessible with a pushchair.

If you fancy amazing views, then the London Eye is something you have to try at least once.

One of my favourite things about Southbank though is just wondering up and down the river and taking in the atmosphere.

Oxford

It’s the home of one of the most famous universities in the world, but it also has lots to do for kids.

The Oxford Museum of Natural History is free to enter and has lots of exhibits kids can touch and explore. They’ll learn something, and have an amazing time – it’s a win-win for parents.

Exploring the city’s streets and little lanes is interesting at any age, but there is also the opportunity to see Oxford from the water with Oxford River Cruises.

Brighton

This is one of my favourite cities in the UK. The great thing about this seaside town is that it doesn’t have to be a gloriously sunny day for you to enjoy your visit here.

With the SEA LIFE centre, pier with indoor arcade, and many, many shops to explore, you can easily spend a day avoiding the rain if you need to.

However if the sun is shining, then the beach is a wonderful place to spend a few hours, with it’s quirky shops, selection of food outlets and glorious view over the pier and sea.

Cardiff

This is one of the UK’s most exciting cities. With a huge town centre offering every shop you could want and the Cardiff Bay with its beautiful seaside views and restaurants, mums and dads will definitely be happy here.

For kids there is Cardiff Castle, which is open to the public. Cardiff Techniquest has a whole host of science exhibits to entertain and delight children, and sporty kids can try their hand at crazy golf in the tropical themed  Treetop Adventure Golf.

Padstow, Cornwall

A beautiful seaside town with buckets of charm. Padstow draws in thousands of tourists a year and it’s easy to see why.

Whether you want to browse the independent shops, get fish and chips or eat an ice cream while watching the boats come and go, you’ll never be bored.

Padstow is also a great spring board to explore other parts of the Cornish coast. There is a ferry that runs across the harbour to neighbouring town Rock plus it’s close to popular attractions such as the Eden Project.

I hope these top UK family destinations have given you some inspiration. Where are your favourite places to visit in the UK?

I love the V&A, it’s a great museum with a paddling pool in the middle!
Also, we drive for a short while along the A40 to the Chilterns, it’s the most beautiful rural place but you can get to parts of it on the Tube!!
