I’ve always found buying the perfect gift for someone else way more exciting than getting something for myself.
I really love surprising people with something they haven’t asked for. When I know I’ve absolutely nailed it with the perfect gift I get really excited to see them opening it.
Now I have children this is magnified. My toddler is only just getting old enough to appreciate presents and get excited at the thought of birthdays and Christmas.
I know this year that my baby will not understand her first birthday and will likely enjoy grabbing the piles of paper more than the toys. However it will still be nice to get her a few things. With that in mind I’ve been looking at the presents that could be a great toy for her to enjoy in her second year and act as a memory of the milestone birthday!
I’ve already been planning themes for the birthday party, so here’s some ideas for the gifts! I think any little girl would love them.
Love Keep Create keepsake bear. This company got an investment from Deborah Meadon when they appeared on TV’s Dragons’ Den not long ago. I had a bunny made for my toddler for her first birthday using all my favourite clothes from her first year. So now it’s time to do the same for my youngest. I’ve been saving the clothes in a special place the last seven months to make sure I have them ready to send. This is something I’ll need to order soon as it takes the company a few weeks to turn the order around. I was so pleased with the results last time I can’t wait to see my baby’s old clothes turned into something adorable.
Nattou Donkey Rocker from John Lewis. I love the thought of getting some kind of rocking toy as I never bought one for my eldest. I reckon she would be on it all the time and Bubba Two would hardly get a look-in!
Early Leaning Centre indoor giraffe trampoline. This looks like it would be hours of fun and would get the little one on her feet more. All children love to bounce!
Personalised Nursery Rhymes book. I love nursery rhymes, even if the content of them is a bit disturbing. Three Blind Mice is about some animals being maimed and Jack And Jill suffered a serious fall because they didn’t have running water in their home. Anyway, I think they’re great to read to kids even if they are a bit weird. I like the thought of having a personalised book that my daughter could keep and maybe read to her own children one day.
Mega Bloks First Builders Learning Train. I’m a big fan of toys that are fun and educational! This train is bound to be popular plus it’s a good way of learning about the alphabet.
Stripey Cats Personalised Osbert clock from John Lewis. I searched all over for a clock for my eldest daughter and couldn’t find anything I liked. I think this clock is so lovely. It would look great in either of my children’s nurseries.
V-Tech Toot Toot Drivers Big Fire Engine. My toddler has some of the Toot Toot toys already. They’re incredibly annoying but she loves them. I think this fire engine would go down a treat! All children are obsessed by emergency services vehicles and the noises they make.
Le Toy Van My First Tool Bench. I hate stereotyping when it comes to toys. I think variety is brilliant when it comes to playtime. My eldest loves the tool kit toys at nursery so I reckon my baby and toddler would have a fab time hammering away with their tool bench.
Personalised Tale of Peter Rabbit Book. The Beatrix Potter stories are still a classic and the illustrations are so beautiful. I think personalised gifts are a lovely way to mark a birthday.
Wooden xylophone from My First Years. I think My First Years have amazing ideas for gifts for children of all ages. They have loads of beautiful keepsakes. I think this bright and cheerful xylophone would look great in the nursery and prove to be a popular toy.
Lost My Name book. I bought a copy of this book for my toddler’s first birthday so I think it would be nice for my youngest too. Plus the story would be different as it changes depending on the name.
Children’s director’s chair with personalisation. My toddler loves having her own chair to climb up and down on, so I think it would be a hit with my youngest. I think this would look so cute in the house as well.
Duplo. My baby is already fascinated by bright Lego bricks so I think a big tub of Duplo would be good so she has some bricks of her own to play with. I can’t wait to see the two of them building towers together!
Mr Men personalised shoes. These little high tops are so cute. I think my baby would look brilliant in them. I love Mr Men and Little Miss characters, they are really fun and engaging for children.
Early Learning Centre Activity Table. Anything that encourages standing up would be great for a first birthday. There’s lots to keep them entertained for a few precious minutes at least as well, which is a bonus.
